His father, Henry Ware Eliot (1843–1919), was a successful businessman, president and treasurer of the Hydraulic-Press Brick Company in St. Louis; his mother, born Charlotte Champe Stearns (1843–1929), wrote poems and was also a social worker. Eliot was the last of six surviving Eliot, Thomas Stearns (1888–1965), poet, critic, and publisher, was born on 26 September 1888 at 2635 Locust Street, St Louis, Missouri, USA, the youngest of the seven children of Henry Ware Eliot (1843–1919) and Charlotte Champe Stearns (1843–1929), into an American family that took pains to impress on him the importance of its history and achievement. Professor Stearns is a wonderful professor at KSU. He understand that everyone in his class isn't a history major and doesn't make the class impossible.
